Purpose: To analyze the evolution of patients undergoing liver transplantation in a single medical service that evolved with moderate to severe gastrointestinal complications (such as digestive bleeding and gut perforation) who needed GI surgery in the postoperative period. Method: Study with a retrospective observational data, non-randomized trial analyzing 82 charts of patient submitted to a liver transplant from June 2014 through May 2018. Results: Five of the 82 patients had GI complications before completing 90 days after liver transplant and required GI surgery. All complications evolved to colonic surgery and partial resection, two patients presented positive cytomegalovirus (CMV) serology and one of them died of sepsis. Conclusion: GI surgery after liver transplant was not so common, 6%, but not rarely. There were relationship between CMV infection and gastrointestinal complications.
