Abstract

Several people are waiting for organ transplants, and for, it is required the family consent. In order to increase the awareness and to contribute for opinion formation about organ donation, the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplantation (CIHDOTT) and the Department of Community Relations, Santa Casa de Franca/SP developed two projects on organ donation for children in the public Elementary School of Franca along the years of 2011 and 2012, respectively. Purpose: Thr main purpose of this study was to apprehend the result of the development of educational programs about organ donation with children, from the perspective of educational professionals based on the above projects, and having as specific objectives the project assessment script fulfilled by teachers who performed it in the classroom and to identify difficulties and/or easiness presented in the review. Methods: The survey gathered data on the outcome of the above projects and conducted an analysis and categorization of ratings made by teachers from the perspective of understanding the relevance of working the organ donation from an early age. Results: It was found that most students showed interest in the topic; teachers who worked with the theme of children up to 06 years had greater difficulty than those who worked with 10 to 11 children of the sixth year of high school, and family children up to six years showed less involvement in activities than10-11 years children families, it was found also that it is healthy to talk about death with children since only talking about it, it is possible to speak about organ donation. Conclusion: It was found that working organ donation in the classroom can be challenging for teachers; however, the interpretation is possible for the kids, and it was concluded that working such theme with students in the classroom is perceived by authors as a way to forming opinion about this matter.
