Nursing care to potential donor of organs and tissues: recording of a hospital in Sergipe

Abstract

Early identification of systemic changes in the donor and appropriate nursing care for the physiological maintenance of potential organ and tissue donor in brain death can preserve the quality of their bodies and make the donation effective. Purpose: To understand the nursing care provided to potential donors of organs and tissues in a hospital in Sergipe along 2009. Methods: Retrospective approach with quantitative and descriptive analysis of data from patient records in a reference hospital in the State of Sergipe. The studied population was composed by 24 medical records of potential donors of organs and tissues from January to December 2009. As an instrument of data collection, it was used the structured observation. Results: Among potential donors, it prevailed males (66.67%), with mean age of 34.95. 37.5% were hospitalized in the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) 29.17% and 12.5% in the Surgical Center / PACU. In 25% of records the temperature was recorded, 41.67% had records of blood pressure and heart rate in 37.50%. There were no records of care for the corneas in 87.50% of the charts. It was observed in one record (4.17%) the use of the Nursing Care System and in 33.33% some note4s from the nurse. Conclusion: The nursing care for potential donor of organs and tissues has not been provided or recorded properly at a hospital in Sergipe.
