Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to know the view of the intensive nursing care to the organ transplantation donation process. Methods: We adopted a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative-quantitative type performed in 2009 with the participation of 31 subjects, a 32 people sam- pling. Results: The study showed that nurses interviewed have partial knowledge on the criteria for brain death diagnosis, as well as issues regarding the various facets that permeate the Brazilian transplantation law. Conclusion: Despite being aware on the importance of donation and transplantation, professionals need a better monitoring and clarification on the diagnosis criteria for Brain Death (BD) and their role in the steps of the process.
